Vanilla blonde is finally back at the top of our wish list in summer 2022...
It is well known that blond hair is a popular summer look and that highlights, balayage, or all-over bleaching are booked from March to September. While cooler nuances such as platinum and ice blonde have been particularly popular recently, a trend reversal for summer 2022 could already be seen during Fashion Week (e.g. at Chanel, Isabel Marant, and Blumarine). Whether on or off the international runway: warm shades of blonde are more popular than ever and the absolute hair color trend.
A variant whose name and shade immediately bring to mind wonderfully creamy desserts and your favorite coffee is Vanilla Blond, which is shaded in different shades of beige. Stefan Scholz, the color expert at Wella Professionals, explains how the popular hair color trend differs from other summer blonde variants and what needs to be considered.
Thanks to a combination of different light, warm blonde tones, and individual cool accents, the vanilla blonde hair color trend looks particularly natural and never as striking as all-over bleaching like Marilyn Monroe. In addition, the effect flatters almost every skin tone. In order for the bleaching to be bright in summer but never too cool or (as the other extreme) tilts into a copper tone, it is important to optimally match the individual hair type - i.e. the original hair color and hair thickness. "Depending on the hair structure, the salon chooses between different types of highlights. In this way, the best result can be achieved for everyone,” explains Stefan Scholz. The secret of the hot hair color trend vanilla blonde? "Shadow Lights, i.e. brilliant highlights with multi-tonal color shading, perfect blends, and extra soft transitions."
Regular care with rich textures that protect against fading, dryness, and UV radiation is recommended so that trendy summer blondes such as vanilla blonde, boho blonde, or honey blonde remain full of luminosity and smooth shine for as long as possible. "Sunlight, in particular, can affect bleached and colored hair and make it appear dull and lackluster," warns Stefan Scholz. In addition to reliable UV protection and deep-acting repair shampoos, conditioners, and masks, he recommends regular color refreshment with a lightly tinted gloss, the texture of which contains not only intensive care components but also semi-permanent color pigments and gives summer hair a particularly bright look, durable blond helps.
Tip: Pay attention to the right nuance (for the vanilla blonde hair color trend, choose a gloss in warm golden blonde, not platinum or silver blonde) and – for a particularly natural result – only use it on the lengths and ends.
