We've never seen her like this: Bella Hadid is bald and has a mullet – will that be the new hairstyle trend for 2022?
We have seen Bella Hadid with many hairstyles - from different pony variants to braided hairstyles to volume waves. But we would hardly have recognized her from the way she walked the catwalk at the Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2022/23 show that was taking place in New York: Bella Hadid was bald and wearing a mullet. And not only that - Gigi Hadid also presented herself with a radical makeover. We'll tell you here what the sisters' new look is all about and whether it has the potential to become the new, controversial hairstyle trend for 2022.
First, Bella Hadid didn't really part with her long, dark brown hair for the Marc Jacobs show. As a video shared by the model on Instagram shows, her scalp was only masked with skin-colored silicone, giving the impression of a shaved bald head. A technique that is also used on film sets or in theaters. Then a wig was used that combined a round, accurately cut bowl cut with a long XXL mullet.
In addition, the model's eyebrows were bleached at the Marc Jacobs show, resulting in a truly futuristic cyborg look overall. The same process was used for the other models on the show, including Gigi Hadid, who changed her hair color from blonde to brunette thanks to a wig. It's hard to imagine how many hours of preparation this must have taken the Marc Jacobs beauty team backstage.
But the designer thought it was worth the effort. After all, the hairstyles of his models made a decisive contribution to the effect of his dramatic, voluminous outfits. Expansive lengths of fabric snaked around the bodies of Bella Hadid and Co., some of which featured deconstructed sweaters and denim jackets. Combined with absurdly high platform boots, the styling made the models look like beings from another world.
Quite intentionally, after all, Marc Jacobs celebrated free expression and creativity with the collection as a counterpoint to populism, the limitation of personal freedom, and backwardness. The title "CHOICE" was a clear nod to the US Supreme Court's recent decision to radically curtail abortion rights, which shocked and upset millions of people around the world.
As much as the cyborg look fascinates: the hair styling that Bella Hadid and Co. got at Marc Jacobs is probably not really suitable for everyday use for the vast majority of people, whether it is actually shaved or just faked. But the mullet can be seen more and more often as a hairstyle trend in 2022. Most recently, Charlize Theron showed up with a fringed shag cut that was short at the front and long at the back, which Billie Eilish, actress Úrsula Corberó and numerous Instagram stars have already dared to try. So for all those who like the look of Bella Hadid as much as we do, this hairstyle trend would be the perfect middle ground. Dare!
