On hot days, the baby wave bob is the go-to hairstyle that not only makes the heat more bearable but also suits every face shape.
The baby wave bob is the ideal heatwave hairstyle that flatters any face shape.
We're heading into the hottest days of 2022 yet, and we're certain that the baby wave bob will be the hairstyle everyone at the hair salon will be asking for right now. When it comes to cool effortless cuts, the bob simply can’t be beaten as a summer hairstyle because of its length. So far we've been big fans of the boyfriend bob or the modern Diana bob, but the latest twist on the haircut is just that tad more summer-ready. It's called the baby wave bob and is currently being described by hairdressers as the summer hairstyle par excellence because it always looks "ready" without much effort.
"The baby wave bob is the ideal hairstyle for anyone who wants a slight wave or curl in their hair but doesn't have time to style it in the morning," explains Issey Cooke, hairstylist at Larry King in London.
"It's a super relaxed look that's so effortless, all you have to do is style a few waves in the top section of your hair and massage a small amount of styling product into the ends to tame the frizz."
Issey Cooke says the baby wave bob is particularly versatile because it can be styled as both a softly draped beach look for every day and a structured and tidy look for the evening: “The great thing about the baby wave bob is also that there is no strict parting, but that you can actually wear it in any way. It's perfect for those who aren't too proficient at styling curls and can't get the waves to be quite symmetrical."
According to celebrity stylist Jay Birmingham, this look is all about the right cut, with the ends of the hair trimmed fairly blunt to give it weight and definition: "You want soft, feathery strands around your face and throughout hair to add extra volume and texture when styling your hair for summer."
For all fans of low-maintenance hairstyles, we have bad news: While the baby wave bob requires little attention in everyday styling, this hairstyle does require regular trimmings - preferably every four to six weeks to ensure that the hair is fresh looks and is easy to style.
"Texture is what defines this look," adds Jay Birmingham. To give the look more ease, he recommends waving the hair in different directions to create the baby wave effect and create an effortless look: "The waves should be loose and super soft," he says. “Use slightly larger sections of hair for waving to achieve this shape. When styling your hair around your face, make sure to rotate the curling iron away from your face. This is how you achieve the blow-out effect. You can either wear your hair in a classic center part or flip it to one side for cool girl chic.”
